On Thursday, Iowa Sen. Joni Ernst held a phone conference discussing her stance on the memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran. Ernst said she and the Senate are still waiting for the White House to disclose the full peace agreement between the two nations. “Any agreement of this magnitude deserves a thorough review,” Ernst said. “The Senate has to examine all of these details to make sure that we are seeing how we’re going to protect our nation and our allies.”Ernst said that the most important part of a final peace agreement to her would be the assurance that Iran will be permanently prevented from obtaining nuclear weapons.”Iran’s been a big bully in the Middle Eastern region for a long time,” Ernst said. “They have threatened the United States of America. It’s expected to reopen the Straight of Hormuz and start deeper talks on Iran’s nuclear program. Talks between the two countries are expected to continue this weekend in Geneva, Switzerland. Ernst said she believes there’s a long way to go before a final agreement can be reached.
