UPDATE 6/19/2026 — According to Oklahoma Natural Gas, the source of gas near an electric transformer that closed the entirety of Cornerstone Shopping Center is no longer believed to be from a gas line break.

Investigators said they’re working to determine if the presence of gas is being caused by an abandoned well or a naturally occurring pocket of methane.

Authorities have collected samples from the area and sent them off for testing.

The Owasso Police Department said all businesses along with the parking lot at Cornerstone Shopping Center will remain closed until testing results return and authorities are able to determine a safe course of action based on what the results reveal.

Authorities stated the Oklahoma Corporation Commission has been notified of the situation and have become involved in the investigation.

Police are requesting that citizens continue to avoid all barricaded areas, emphasizing ONG officials have deemed the shopping center unsafe.

However, all roadways and buildings surrounding the shopping center remain open.

OWASSO, Okla. — The Owasso Police Department announced all businesses inside the Cornerstone Shopping Center have been closed after a gas line break was reported near an electric transformer.

Around 3:40 p.m. on Thursday, the Owasso Police Department and the Owasso Fire Department said they responded to ONG’s request for assistance after the reported gas leak was found near the back of the strip center.

Authorities said fire officials have evacuated everyone from the area out of an abundance of caution until the gas line can be repaired.

Owasso Police said all entrances and exits to the shopping center are closed and all businesses will remain closed until that repair is completed.

At this time, no roads in the area are being impacted by the situation.

Authorities are asking the public to continue avoiding the shopping center until authorities have determined the area is safe.
