happened to me not long ago, albeit i only saw while leaving the train and until doing research did not know what exactly i am looking at, i was wondering, what the usually response is.

as for why its probably heroin and not crack, no i did not ask, but there were two people, a man and a woman.
one foil was already burned and unwrapped, while the men was ‘sleeping’. (something that would not happen if it was crack, but happens with heroin/opiates according to my research) the women still had her foil wrapped in the form of a longish square resembling a flattened cigarette, but it was closed off at one end.
no, there was no smell in the cabins, that i noticed. which is also why i saw while leaving the train and not ‘smelled’ it. the aircons were working on full blast however since it was early evening and still hot.

If they’re somewhat isolated, I’d leave them be. If you want to destroy your health, that’s your problem. If they were doing it next to others/children, I’d tell them to GTFO.

depends like at day time when children are around i would tell him off but if it was like on a late train which is almost empty i would just change the cabin

If he’s doing it in the train he’s probably under withdrawal and extremely sensitive.
There are 2 options :
1. Leave him alone and get asap out of the train
2. Offer him help. AKA talk to him to delay his intake and maybe show/tell him to do this in the injection rooms.
Option 2 is the riskier one, it could be that said person doesn’t wanna talk and is gonna take it as an insult and therefore he may get physical or start screaming.
Reporting to the authorities :
1. Is a big ass bitch move
2. Won’t lead to anything except rush that person further into problems and waste tax money (because the cops will only show up like 20minutes afterwards the train entered the station and that dude will for sure not wait until they show up)
3. Is just cringe. To put someone (in need of help) further down the shit spiral is extremely immoral, cringe and disgusting. Please don’t be that person even if your afraid of this person.
For some context about heroïne addiction in Switzerland there are numerous and EXCELLENT documentarys or films that could help you understand their situation and why they most of the time can’t much for their addiction. One recommendation would be “Platzspitz baby” (even though it doesn’t show how people get into addiction it shows the social context and this leads to better understanding).

Maybe he was smoking Crack. Crack smokers are a different kind of addict. They can be VERY aggressive. I think crack and heroin are smoked the same way. I would stay away from anyone smoking anything on tin foil. I mention crack because just day before yesterday there was a news video article somewhere about crack cocaine usage is on the rise in Switzerland.

You probably don’t want to approach them in case they get aggressive. I’d inform either a train conductor, the rail police or the regular cops. Not to have them punished but for the safety of other passengers.
Here in Switzerland there’s absolutely no excuse to do this shit in public. There are plenty of clinics where addicts can go to take their drugs. It’s safer for them too as they test the substances and they can take them in a safe environment with clean paraphernalia and under medical supervision.
I’d do nothing and probably change cabins, since I know the 100+ passengers about to come in the following stops will say something

Heroin (when smoked) doesn’t have a lingering smell like tobacco or weed.
It’s a passing smell that usually most resembles a vinegar like smell. But a drug dog can usually identify pretty quick obviously.
I went to school in the states of a lot of drug users. A lot people confuse heroin with smoking crack rock.
Call the Transportpolizei (TPO) and give them instructions on what train. They will immediately seize him/her. You’ll find the number online and in the trains.

Nobody remembers the time when there were smoking wagons? I often saw people smoking foil, even in the morning rush hour. People smoking weed on the train was also not unusual.

Personally I find public drug use similar to public sex. Should not be done for many reasons. Take your private pleasures to a private place. There is no acceptable justification why the potential should exist for a 10 year old to witness blatant drug use or public sex on a train. The inevitable questions of “mommy why does that person have a needle in the arm or a penis in someone else’s orfice… These are age sensitive topics that should be discussed between parent and child whenever the parent thinks the child is appropriately mature. These conversations should not be prematurely provoked because some selfish individual didn’t give a damn about anyone else nearby.

Id call the cops and nothing else. Everyone talking about they would yell at them is pure liar. These guy will react the way you won’t imagine, because they feeling strong as fkk. So, if you like to freak out with junkies, just do it. But everyone else knows its a job for the cops. Already saw these high guys in altstetten shouting around, talking in the air and hitting strangers on the stairs (!!) Ignore them and move forward or call the cops, thats it.
