Boris Johnson says Northern Ireland protocol bill a ‘relatively trivial set of adjustments’

  1. “we just don’t want that whole section about a border, it’s a little thing, other than that we agree”

  2. I’m not surprised he sees it this way. You would hope to be surprised to find out the PM felt this way but Johnson has never been one to pretend to care for Northern Ireland in any way whatsoever.

  3. Toss what this man says straight into the bin at this point. There is zero point listening to what he says. Vote them out ASAP.

  4. They’re only going to cost what remains of the UK’s reputation and its commitment to the rule of law, in addition to the billions upon billions of pounds of damage caused by the EU’s “relatively trivial” set of counter-adjustments to the TCA. But hey: it’s not as if *he* is paying the price for any of this. It’s the UK population and businesses that will do that. He will just retire to a a career of fake directorships, “journalism” and speaking at events for a few millions a year while others will have to spend decades cleaning up the mess and repairing what he has so casually broken.

It was to be expected, of course. From the very beginning, these people have consistently burned down their country’s material interests to fuel their own political careers. Now he will engineer another fight with the EU to rally the radical MP’s in his own party and the general Brexit supporters round his rapidly sinking government.

And the worst part: if he is eventually replaced, his successors will act in just the same way because the rot is systemic at this point.

  5. I love the way the media is reporting this as a post Brexit deal. Surely this literally is Brexit, it’s part of the withdrawal agreement. The government does not agree with its own Brexit that it negotiated with the EU and signed off on!

  6. The UK suffering a trade war is a sacrifice Johnson is willing to make. All in the name of keeping himself in a job.

The recent NC vote has left him outgunned by the factions within his own party. He is looking to appease those groups by fulfilling promises he made years ago. Promises he could never keep without invoking a shitstorm in the UK’s trade with the EU.

  7. Ah yes, well, so I guess that means we can just unilaterally “trivially adjust” every other international treaty, right?! You know, like nuclear test ban treaties and such?

Oh, what’s that? We cant, because that would be outrageous and patently absurd?! Hmmm.
