Is it possible for a stove with knobs you have to turn, to turn on by themselves? When I got home the house was up in smoke. No obvious signs of break-in. The two front were turned on. Is this possible?

  1. Sorry bud, it sounds like you either put them on by accident before you went out, or someone with access done it to burn down your gaff. Either way if get a camera installed either at your entrance door or kitchen. Fuck this shit.

  2. Possible cause are
1 – you turned them on and due to some mental illness can’t remember.
2- another person in your household left them on either on purpose or by accident.
3 – Someone let themselves into your house and turned them on.

  3. If you took a photo by the stove just before leaving, and the mains switch was on, it’s possible one of you turned the knobs with your butt or arm accidentally while passing by.

No,you or your housemate turned them without noticing. Probably after you took the photo

  5. You’ve stated that you were in the kitchen and took a picture of someone in front of the stove before you left the house. That means it is very likely that they or you accidentally leaned on or brushed up against the knobs and turned two of them on. This is by far the simplest and most plausible explanation.

  6. Don’t leave anything on the hob when it’s off. If there’s nothing on them, they should switch off automatically. At least mine do.

  7. Knobs don’t turn themselves so either one of you turned them or else someone got into your gaff and tried to set it on fire. I’d check for any signs someone else was in the gaff.

  8. Only reason I can think is that the dials are not configured right on their setting. Do you know if they are loose and pop out easily? If so, someone could have easily screwed them back it, but the notches couldn’t be right. So instead of setting it at 0, it could be at 1, then if its at 2, it could be 3 and so on.

  9. This reminds me of that guy on Reddit that was doing stuff and thought people were breaking into his house but it turned out he had carbon monoxide poisoning – if not for posting it to Reddit he’d have likely died

  10. I had one of these .. i was forever walking into the knobs or hitting off them..

I started turning the red wall switch off then and I have done so ever since

  11. most likely the knobs were left on but the cooker had been turned off at the wall switch. then a roommate came along and turned the cooker back on to preheat the grill.

this happened to me, and it nearly caused a fire. i recommend always keeping the cooker top free. at the very least never put wood or plastic on it, only cleaned metal or glass utensils.

i had a roommate who had a serious problem with responsibility for stuff, it was always me turning the knobs back to zero. he also never cleaned a thing, never took out the bins, and never checked for letters/packages left at the main door to the apartment block. 3 months after i moved out i got a call from electric ireland that the bill hadnt been paid and i clearly forgot to take my name off it. i paid the money just get rid of him and then closed the account. he’ll learn to pay his bills pretty quick once they disconnect him

  12. I used to have this cooker and I can say you only need to brush against the knobs to turn them on and you don’t know until:

    A) something goes on fire

    B) you put something ontop of it and it burns

    C) you put your hand on it (this is the one I did and how I found out).

Im going to assume you’ve had it a few years as this is what causes it. They loosen over time and are super easily turned on.

Side note: Albufeira is nice isn’t it?
