Top general: Finland has spent decades preparing for a war like Ukraine’s

  1. General Timo Kivinen, Commander of the Finnish Defence Forces, says Finland has been preparing for decades for a war of the type we see in Ukraine.

Indeed, unlike in many other (esp Western) European countries, history never ended in Finland.

  2. Ok, cool. Can it counter-attack into Russian territory? Can it go further than just a few kilometers?

Because when Russia rolls over the Baltic, some stationary units in the north aren’t going to make that much of a difference. Russia is just going to timeslot them for latter.

  3. > Finland has 280,000 military personnel ready in the case of conflict, with an additional 870,000 trained as reservists—a product of adhering to national military service **for all males**, unlike many other Western countries in the post-Cold War era.

So there are no strong and independent Finnish women being conscripted and trained for war, not even for backline roles? How strange for such a progressive country which claims to be doing everything for gender equality. They should learn from Sweden and Norway. Both have gender-neutral draft system and from the looks of it, Finland will need it more if things go bad, and practical use aside, it’s only fair such a progressive country adheres to its gender equality values.
