  1. **Minister of the Interior Annelies Verlinden (CD&V) wants to see how she can send extra police officers to Molenbeek, but also insists on “optimal cooperation” of the 6,000 police officers on Brussels territory. In this respect, she again puts a merger of the Brussels police zones on the table.**

The Brussels commune Sint-Jans-Molenbeek has been plagued by violence – often drug-related – for months. Earlier this week there was another shooting in the street in broad daylight. It was already the thirteenth shooting incident since September.

Mayor Catherine Moureaux (PS) sounded the alarm and sat down with Minister of the Interior Annelies Verlinden (CD&V) this morning. She wants to see how she can send 20 extra police officers to Molenbeek, but at the same time she points out the responsibility of other actors.

    **No taboo**

Verlinden is looking at Brussels Prime Minister Rudi Vervoort, among others, she answered in the Chamber to questions from François De Smet (DéFI), Maxime Prévot (Les Engagés), Philippe Pivin (MR), Ahmed Laaouej (PS), Franky Demon (CD&V) and Julie Chanson (Ecolo). Since the sixth state reform, the Prime Minister has had a coordinating role in the security policy in the 19 Brussels municipalities. A government bill will soon be tabled to extend these powers even further, so that the Prime Minister can take over authority over all the police zones in the capital in the event of serious security problems.

But even now, she said, it is important to get the 6,000 police officers in Brussels to work together in the best possible way. “For me, there is no taboo. The merger of police zones in Brussels is not included in the coalition agreement, but it is a solution for my party.”

Verlinden received backing from her party colleague Franky Demon, who said he hoped “that Vervoort will take responsibility”. The Minister-President and his party (PS) have always opposed a merger of the Brussels police zones, as have most other French-speaking parties.

  2. A non-answer, as usual from the CD&V, the police asks for more personnel, they receive this political bullshit in return.

And on the other side we have Moureaux that just can’t take responsibility for anything, we are going to go far like this.

  3. good luck. Brussel and Molenbeek works very differently in police matters.
but the constant is : the town that pay the most receive the better cover.
