ELKTON — An historic property in Columbiana County that once served hungry patrons for years has found a new purpose. The site of the former Lock 24 restaurant is now operating as the 1830 Gathering Place, a multi-use event venue designed to host weddings, corporate meetings, and private celebrations.
Located at 42087 State Route 154, the property holds deep roots in the local community. The original barn on the property was built nearly two centuries ago and once functioned as part of a working farm. After the Lock 24 restaurant officially closed its doors in July 2019 following eight years of operation, the historic structure underwent extensive renovations. Owner Dan Geisler led a project in 2024 to restore the barn, preserving its historic framework while adding modern amenities.
The newly renovated venue features an indoor barn and an open-air lawn, offering flexible options for both seasonal and year-round events. The facility includes a full liquor license to manage indoor and outdoor bar services with professional staff. For larger gatherings, the venue provides professional tent rentals ranging in size from 40 feet by 40 feet up to 40 feet by 100 feet. The setups can accommodate up to 300 guests on the scenic grounds, which also feature a historic covered bridge.
In addition to private rentals, the property is introducing public community events under a segment called The Hay Loft. The venue is launching its summer lineup with a bike night event scheduled for Friday, July 3. The public gathering, which runs from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m., will feature barbecue from Big Woo’s Meat Revival, musical entertainment by DJ Huey, and various drink specials. Visitors can also obtain VIP cards for discounts during future visits to the establishment.
Property owners emphasized that the transformation aims to balance historical preservation with modern utility. The venue is currently accepting inquiries and reservations for weekend-long celebrations, business conferences, and family gatherings, requiring a deposit to secure specific dates. Local caterers, photographers, musicians, and other event vendors are also being invited to partner with the facility as preferred partners for upcoming scheduled operations. This collaborative approach helps local businesses connect with clients hosting events at the site.
