I think it’s a horrible position that players and staff have been placed into.
It could arguably be your one chance to attend a World Cup, and you have all these moral/ethical pressures foisted upon you because a corrupt sporting organisation got bribed into picking Qatar as the tournament host.
Bit like when lgbt staff walked out of the BBC because of its anti trans and anti lgbt stance.
Is this really the issue you boycott Qatar over?
Not building the whole place on the back of Slave labour, and human lives?
It is like suggesting the biggest issue with Russia is gay rights…think there are some mildly more concerning things going on.
Good now all western clubs should follow suit.
Qatar world cup? Where are they now with this corruption / bribes business for that attribution? Still nothing I guess. How surprising! Lol
Their country their rules, dont like it then you don’t have to go.What about the large part of the football world where they have to adhere to our laws and not agree?
I don’t agree with Qatars way of life but that’s why I don’t live there or have anything to do with anyone homophobic but I get it and that’s their choice and right

The real credit should go to Scotland who, unlike Wales and England, have decided to boycott the whole thing.
At least our homophobic Prime Minister won’t feel out of place if he goes over there to watch a few games.
Don’t boycott, go over there with rainbow flags and shove some gayness in the Qataris face’s
I mean thats a good reason, but isn’t the whole 1000’s dying to build it bad enough to boycott it?
Helpful reminder you can do your part to punish FIFA by boycotting the sponsors, Coke and Maccies, if they have a drop in revenue they won’t be paying for the bribery circle jerk that is Fifa
Laws and attitudes towards sex in the UK change over time. It is fascinating to see that when the UK has been more “conservative” than foreign countries, the latter were considered degenerate. In areas where the UK is now more “liberal” it considers the foreign countries to be repressive, and expects them to fall into line with prevailing UK attitudes.
Qatar is an interesting example, since its sexual mores are both more and less liberal than those of the UK. As in other Muslim countries, sex is regarded as an activity between people who are married. Otherwise sex is illegal. So that attitude is more conservative than the UK. However, if you are married at age 14 you can still have sex in Qatar, which is more liberal than the UK has been since Victorian days.
I wonder how much the outrage against Qatar serves as a lightning rod to channel away or bury the problems of our own sexual mores and behaviours. As we all know, the UK has a nasty rape culture that exists despite laws designed to keep children away from sex: https://www.bbc.com/news/technology-56407441. We have removed some of the discrimination that homosexuals faced, but not other fundamental problems of sexuality such as treating other people like chattel. If we want to export the UK model of sexuality to other countries, we cannot just pick and choose the progressive bits; we must also admit its failings.
Cherry picking the moral grounds. Wish the same sentiment was applied to a certain apartheid in Middle East.
There’s literally modern day slavery going on there but who cares about that right?
