>The absence of an organising force was a handicap in planning the move against him. The timing of the confidence vote was terrible. Had they waited a fortnight, there would have been two more bad byelection results to concentrate the minds of havering Tories. It is nailed on that they will lose the red-wall seat of Wakefield to Labour. One Tory MP who has campaigned in the seat reports: “On the basis of the people I spoke to, we are going to be right royally shafted.” It looks pretty certain that the Lib Dems will demolish the huge Tory majority in the West Country constituency of Tiverton and Honiton. A double whammy of byelection defeats will leave more Conservative MPs scared for their seats.
They were all so badly smug for so long, forgetting they were human and reality did not cease to exist
They aren’t even mediocrities, they are quite simply the worst bunch of incompetents ever to hold office in the UK.
Many in the Cabinet will stand behind Johnson because he has given them jobs they are in no way qualified or experienced enough to hold, they will not bite the hand that feeds. Any rebellion was going to fail when Johnson has plenty of people willing to take the dagger for him. Only a catastrophic election result will see Johnson walk away.
that’s why he chose them
nothing has changed other than they just cant pass the buck to brussels and have it stick like they could for 40 years.
Why would the sycophants wield a dagger that puts their own careers in danger? Johnson’s front bench is still looking for a way out of this while still keeping the door to the honey jar wedged open. If they turn on him and someone else ends up in charge, they run the risk of being sacked.
Well, with the decline of quality in Tory leadership, I’m afraid what a next (Tory) PM would look like.
Years ago, they had Cameron. Cameron was not completely bad. He was just stupid, but not as malevolent stupid as his successors. Still, he thought the referendum to be a good idea to stay in power despite the world moving forward. And got rewarded with the biggest piece of political turd imaginable in June 2016. Which he promptly refused to eat up, and fled his job like a bat.
Then they got Maybot. Not as classy as Thatcher, but as easily hateable due to her charm and empathy being at par with a brick flying in your face. I have to admit though that she had recognized the shitshow that was handed to her, and at least *tried* to get a few things right. And when she was not dumb enough to perform a Brexit as bad as the backers and profiteers wanted, they got rid of her.
Both Johnsons looks and mind are the scrapings from the *very* bottom of the barrel. I’ve never seen any person more unfit for a political job with responsibilities than him, with the notable exception of Trump. Well, you can say what you want about the ungrateful colonists, but *they* at least managed to vote the idiot out of the office for the time being. The UK still voted Tories, mainly because of a misguided notion that things were *so* much better in the past when the UK was a world power. BoJo is the perfection of the conscience-free political leader, unhamperedd by ideas like “morals” and “decency”. He would not recognize reality, even if it bit him. Still, they voted him into office, and failed to kick him out when his failures were no longer deniably. Which tells me a lot about that party.
So, for 15 years the UK is on a downward spiral regarding leadership quality, and all that for the sake of staying in power.
