Russia has launched a coordinated, multi-region wave of drone strikes targeting Ukraine’s critical fuel and energy infrastructure.
According to Serhii Koretskyi, CEO of Naftogaz—Ukraine’s leading state-owned energy enterprise—the simultaneous strikes utilized Iranian-designed Shahed loitering munitions to hit gas stations and production facilities across three distinct regions, News.Az reports, citing RBC-Ukraine.
The attacks targeted vital operational infrastructure, dealing a blow to both commercial and extraction operations:
Zaporizhzhia, Mykolaiv, and Dnipropetrovsk Regions: Multiple Ukrnafta gas stations were directly hit and have been forced to shut down. During one of the drone strikes, a female employee suffered severe injuries and remains hospitalized in critical condition.
Poltava Region: Overnight and early morning strikes caused “significant damage” to essential gas extraction and storage facilities. While a swift response from the State Emergency Service (DSNS) and Naftogaz teams contained a major fire, a portion of these energy assets has been completely knocked out of operation.
“An assessment of the scale of the destruction is ongoing,” Naftogaz reported, noting that no staff or rescue workers were injured in the Poltava sector.
This latest barrage is part of an intensifying, systemic campaign against Ukraine’s domestic energy supply. Just last month, a combined ballistic missile and drone strike entirely leveled a Ukrnafta station in the Dnipropetrovsk region.
The human toll on the frontlines of Ukraine’s energy defense continues to mount. Koretskyi revealed that the company recorded a staggering 96 attacks on its facilities in just the first four months of this year alone. Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, 320 Naftogaz Group employees have lost their lives.
