One of the really nice things about Dublin is how you can get into some incredibly scenic and quiet parts of the country in absolutely no time at all. This is looking down toward Bohernabreena from the military road, about 12 km or so cycle from Rathmines – with lots of climbing. Not a soul nor a car in sight.
And the green alien orb??
Beautiful picture
Beautiful photograph. It’s quite an eerie and lonely place. Near the spot where the mutilated body of IRA Captain Noel Lemass was dumped by Free State officers. He had been abducted on the street on 08 July 1923 (about 5 weeks after the end of the Civil War) and his body was found on 13 October of that same year. He had been shot a number of times and his left arm was fractured. His right foot was never found.
Noel Lemass fought in the 1916 Rising and the War of Independence. A memorial was erected at the spot and I assume there’ll be a commemoration next year to mark the centenary of his death.
His brother Sean Lemass served as Taoiseach from 1959 to 1966.
