“I think it’s a big step backwards” PM Boris Johnson says he’s “always believed in a woman’s right to choose” after US Supreme Court overturned a 50-year-old ruling that legalised abortion in the country

  1. He’s definitely right with that. It’s incredible that in this day and age the USA, who actually was a forerunner in that area, happens to make abortion illegal in possibly up to half its states. One can only wonder which right is the next to land on SCOTUS’ chopping board.

  2. Maybe it’s a big step backwards to later take two big steps forwards? You know what, never mind it’s not that.

  3. This is what happens when you use the courts to legislate. Abortion should have been voted on in the legislature and passed into law. When you rights is granted to you by 9 unelected glorified bureaucrats, it can be taken away by 9 other unelected glorified bureaucrats. It doesn’t make sense at all for the rights to abortion to be decided by the judicial system. Why in the world does 9 presidential appointees get to make that decision for a country of hundreds of millions? You tried to work around the actual legislative process, and ultimately it didn’t work. Big surprise.

  4. Ukraine (and not just them…) deprives its men of control over their bodies, no one bats an eye

America deprives its women of control over their bodies, everybody loses their minds

    Downvote, I don’t care

  5. This is just going to force the US Congress into passing actual legislation, instead of relying solely on “precedent”.

  6. Well boris has no power in the US, thankfully the SCOTUS has common sense! Thank goodness they’re protecting the unborn, I’ll continue to celebrate!

  7. the funny part is that the American right is afraid that Muslims will bring Sharia law or destroy their values but they do it on their own.

edit: now the LGBT community is also afraid because gay marriage was only legalized 6-7 years ago and they just overturned a 50-year ruling

  8. It is amazing how few people even understand the basis of this decision. This has nothing to do with abortion this decision is solely about the constitutional rights appointed to states.

This ruling does not in any way make a legal decision on the legality of abortion. The court has acknowledged that the legality of abortion is to be determined by the states not the federal courts.

It is funny how this decision affects the health of millions of women when roughly 600,000 have an abortion each year and the vast majority of those abortions were conducted in states which will continue to allow them.

It is also amazing how there is a sudden political fight to protect women’s medical rights by the very same people who needed to the supreme court to prevent them from mandating every citizen be forced to take an experimental vaccine which by the government’s own admission neither prevents infection nor the spread of the virus it is suppose to protect from.

  9. It’s more than just abortion rights on the line. Thomas is encouraging the court to revisit the case that guarantees the right to privacy in the bedroom (contraception).

  10. While the decision is concerning, this isn’t really as world-ending as many people think. It’s literally handing the power to delegalize abortion from federal to state levels.

The most likely result will be a future expansions of the Supreme Court, and consequently a packing in order to regain a majority.
