“Because Plaintiffs’ Motion remains pending without a ruling, the Mayweather-Zambidis event will no longer proceed in Athens, Greece as planned on Saturday evening,” attorney Melissa Glass wrote in a letter to the court, per ESPN. “Plaintiffs’ commencement of this action and filing of the Motion, as well as their legal threats domestically and in Greece, have effectively stopped any promotion or distribution plans for the event and halted ticket sales.”
Mayweather-Zambidis could still be rescheduled, depending on the result of the injunction ruling, Glass’ letter said.
Billed as “Battle Of The Legends,” social media footage showed the pitting being promoted over the last 24 hours, with Mayweather on site in Greece for a press conference.
But on Thursday, the event’s official social media account announced Mayweather-Zambidis will be rescheduled to a new date, with the rest of the card moving forward as planned.
“Some battles are worth waiting a little longer to get their story right,” a statement read.
