Hoping for good progress, democracy is under attack globally. There are less and less democracies each year.
The test we face is great and so are the stakes. If we do not respond to this first provocation with clarity of purpose, if we do not continue to demonstrate our determination, it would be a signal to actual and potential despots around the world.
Leaders from around the world must understand that how we manage this crisis today could shape the future for generations to come.
That’s a nice middle finger to Hungary
> Pakistan, Philippines, Iraq
Got it, good luck
> Pakistan
> Democracy
This is like inviting KSA to UN human rights council
That will be a great pub trivia/quiz question.
> Hungary, Iraq, China, Russia, Somalia, Cuba, Yemen, Turkey, Iran, Belarus, Sudan, Tajikistan. Name the one country from the aforementioned list that got an invite to the Summit for Democracy in 2021.
Armenia participating! happy to see the progress made there.
Why is Serbia invited? We weren’t on original invitee list. What changed since than?
Armenia and Georgia are doing good. Surprised by Serbia, and good to see Mongolia is invited. I will say this council is good and what I have wanted for a long time. The US needs to build a wider democratic coalition and support democracy worldwide (real democracy).
Would be nice to see more arabs on this though. Maybe Tunisia
Also, poor Greenland (I know Denmark is invited but look at this map 🙁 ).

Mongolia be like
All are complaining that Hungary is not there. But why is Democratic Republic of Congo there? They are a dictatorship by every measure. So is Angola or Niger and in my opinion Indonesia where Sharia law is enforced in one region
Whole point of the summit is “NOT” inviting some countries.
Such a joke list seriously.
Interesting list of invited countries.
I guess most of them are USA allies with some exceptions.
Actually Iraq is a democracy on paper. They have everything in their parliament. Multiple parties, minority seats, 3 different ethnic heads of states by term, etc. However the country’s half is America’s puppet, other half Iran’s. Not saying Iraqi Kurdistan divided into two as well, Barzanistan, Talabanistan where nepotism is one of the highest in the world. The entire country is a failed state that lives in the feudal age. This is nothing but “look how we brought democracy to Iraq”.
From the earlier thread on the subject.
> I assume Iraq is invited because the US wants to show off the success story of their democracy export.
> Democratic Republic of the Congo
They are literally named the second least democratic country in the world – only North Korea scores lower on Democracy Index. There was even a joke that the two least democratic countries on Earth have “Democratic” as a part of their official name.
