MANCHESTER, N.H. —

Liberty Utilities is responding after a News 9 investigation found homes and businesses in the Lakes Region were denied natural gas service because of capacity constraints.

U.S. Rep. Maggie Goodlander, D-New Hampshire, sent a letter to the utility after News 9’s reporting, and Liberty Utilities is responding to that letter.

In its response, Liberty acknowledged the problem and said it’s pursuing a temporary solution that would send additional liquefied natural gas to the Lakes Region.

It went on to say the move could ease restrictions on new hookups while a larger pipeline upgrade moves forward. It’s unclear when those new hookups would be allowed.

In a response to News 9, a Liberty Utilities spokesperson said, in part:

“We remain committed to working with Congresswoman Goodlander, other elected officials, customers, community stakeholders, and our state regulatory and governing agencies to determine the best path forward in addressing infrastructure constraints affecting this portion of our system while maintaining the safe and reliable service our customers depend on and deserve.”
