  1. > In the past six years, the couple’s companies have spent over £80million on commercial properties.

    > They also own five residences worth £17million – three in London, one in Warwickshire and one in Dubai.

    > Questions have been raised about Mr Zahawi’s declaration of interests.

    > Last year, it emerged one of his wife’s firms bought a £3.5million industrial estate by the Eurotunnel train station in Ashford, Kent, mortgage-free – days before the Government secured the trade deal with the EU in December 2020.

    > Mr Zahawi had played a leading role in preparing for Brexit.

I think we should all take a moment to ponder Zahawi’s selfless dedication in stepping back from managing his huge pile of dosh to waste his time pootling about on a trivial ministerial salary in a backwater department of the government of a failing nation regressing to a feudal economy.

OK. I’m one to be completely suspicious of the Cons business dealings, but this particular purchase seems a tad of a stretch to try to claim as sus to me. I mean, it doesn’t take a genius to know some sort of trade deal is likely going to be struck with the EU after a vote to leave the EU 4 years prior and sometime on or shortly after the date for “Brexit day” that was agreed by the EU in Oct 2019.

And Ashford has been marketing itself on its links to the M20 and thus ports and Chunnel, as well as the International Eurostar station with its high speed line to London since long before the Referendum was even announced. I doubt it’s ever been a bad pick for industrial commercial investment.

  3. That’s a new good line after Marie Antoinette’s “Let them eat cake” we now have Zahawi’s “If they cannot buy food then let them buy a Supermarket!”.

  4. Surely you should be a minister and that’s it. You should have to give up assets or sell them to be in that career. How can you have close links to something that can be manipulated or enable you to manipulate others from your position.

  5. Yeh, and? I don’t care that Zahawi is successful in life, that’s the kind of person I want making the decisions, not some loser commie who never graduated from student union politics.

  6. Do you get it yet brexit voters? Are the beams of light breaking through the cracks yet?

The UK got got mugged so these bastards could line their pockets.

I hope we arrest them all, johnson, sunak, Patel, gove, dorries. Criminals.

  7. Blaming all those in power, who are seemingly on loose at the moment, is simply a waste of time. They are there and they do whatever they want, because people have voted and enabled them. So you and I agree to blame. If you don’t like what you see, then do something right next time.

  8. So?

Is a Tories wife not meant to do her own thing or something with her money?

What a complete and utter non-story that this sub would bitch and cry about if it was from the Dailymail about a non-Tory.

  9. Hey look at that, rich people getting richer by continuing to hoard all the wealth.
I guess we must be close to the point were it starts to trickle down right?

  10. Why is it allowed for people like this to be in his position if he is clearly abusing it for his own gain? The government is doing a pretty bad job and it’s well known. From the energy and living costs to the wonderful immigration plan. But their own personal business are doing great with certain politicians even making the UK top rich list within the past year. But we have to put up with stagnant wages and an ever rising cost of living also the shittiest 2 years for this country has seen in about 75 years. It just really seems crazy the idea the government pushes of its gonna be tough but we can pull together bullshit. While they genuinely line their pockets. Take advantage of food banks as if is something to be proud of that the public have had to stand up and help.

  11. So what? This guy was charging the taxpayer to heat *his stables* back in the expenses scandal, and his constituents continue to vote for him.

You get the politicians you deserve

  12. Is it a pre requisite to be a multi millionaire with a portfolio of business properties and housing properties to become a Tory MP?

It really is disgusting these people are in Power with no respect or understanding for the real people or this country

  13. A democratic government should be of the people, for the people. These are the 1% eliteists how can they possibly be of the people.

  14. He’s going to call it a “quaint little corner shop” like he did with those heated horse stables isn’t he?

  15. The motivations of these people are transparent, they’re in politics to keep power and wealth in the hands of the wealthy.

  16. I remember Zahawi weeping in an interview when the US imposed a travel ban on 7 countries.
He was concerned about seeing his children who were studying in the US … I remember being puzzled and didn’t feel the interviewer asked him for clarification.
Surely his children would be British citizens and not Iranian.
If he has a rich wife, he should cherish her. But should not abuse his position to tip her off on good deals to make (if he has)
Sadly politicians seem to forget their role as public servants and just serve themselves, so many just seem to line themselves up for lucrative jobs after their political careers.
