Jonathan Milan will get to wear the Italian tricolor for a year. The 25-year-old Italian from Lidl-Trek finally got the chance on Saturday afternoon to sprint for the national champion’s jersey in his home country during a relatively flat race. He didn’t let that opportunity go to waste.

All Astana podium in Kazakhstan

While the Italian championship has always been a guarantee of excitement in recent years, the lack of elevation gain on Saturday made for a tightly contested race. Lidl-Trek had Milan on the team, so any attackers were kept in check all the way to the finish.

Riders like Alberto Dainese (Soudal Quick-Step) and Matteo Moschetti (Pinarello-Q36.5) were hoping that Lidl-Trek’s dominance would give them a free pass to pull off a sprint upset, but Milan wouldn’t let it get that far. He outpaced 2026 sensation Tommaso Dati.

In Kazakhstan, the road race title went to Nicolas Vinokourov, who must have made his father, Alexandre, very proud. The Kazakh rider from XDS Astana took the podium alongside two teammates. Yevgeniy Fedorov finished second, and Anton Kuzmin third.

Women Compete for Championship Jerseys at National Championships

In addition to the Italian men’s road race, it was mainly women who were in action on Saturday. In France, Célia Gery claimed the French tricolor for the already formidable FDJ United-SUEZ team. Kim Le Court still had a time trial to complete and, as expected, won it in Mauritius.

In Austria, too, the race was still being held against the clock, with a men’s race also on the schedule. Felix Großschartner secured yet another national title for UAE Emirates-XRG and put himself in contention for a possible Tour de France selection. In the women’s race, Cristina Schweinberger won for Fenix-Premier Tech.
