Tjaldur er ofarlega á blaði hjá mér, svona af þessum algengu.
Ef þú hefur aldrei séð haförn, þá mæli ég með að reyna það við tækifæri.
I’m slightly partial to the Eider, mainly because I grew up around them as a kid. I’d go up north to Melrakkasléttu where my grandparents had their summer resort, and we’d go pick the down from their nests from the small islets at the lagoon & by the lakes and sea.
Then there was some years we spent raising their younglings as an experiment (sometimes straight from egg from abandoned nests), with the idea to see if they’d return again later to nest near our house.
And yes, some of them (a few) did come to nest near our house (like 10-15 m away).
It was definitely a lot of work to play a babysitter & parent to a group of 50+ eider babies every summer for 10+ years (:
We’d usually also have a few geese in there too, a few ducklings (who never thrived with us in that group).
Jaðrakaninn er skemmtilegastur í mínum augum.
Svo flottur og skemmtilegur 🙂
I went on a graduation trip to Vestmannaeyjar and hiked to the very top of Herjólfsdalur and walked along the ridge of the island, one of my favorite times being alive on this earth, feeling like you’re on the top of the world because you’re high up on a small island, marveling at the sea and the curvature of the earth, watching the sun set surrounded by cute lil peaceful puffins.
So uh yeah, puffins 👍
I’m partial to the crow because they’re smart, and there’s this kind of mythological mystique around them. I love watching the crow’s nest in the building of my local elementary school, seeing the mother go out for food and come back to her babies and maybe she’ll stop by to say hello to me
I also go down to the lake to feed the ducks and geese some nuts and seeds out of my hand. It makes me feel powerful because sometimes they will fight over the food and I come in like HEY STOP FIGHTING there’s enough food for everybody and then they stop fighting
The first one in the video, Tjaldur.
I heard they warp next to roadsides on purpose, because they have learned that seagulls avoid the cars and are therefore less likely to eat eggs from their nest.
Himbrimi/Loon and his [calls](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ib0CxvL8Bp8) while camping around a lake with a pair of them will make them one of your favorite
Glókollur
Definitely the Common Snipe (Hrossagaukur).
The sound they make with their wings is [mesmerising](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6nWuf9jmHfg).
