MILWAUKEE — Immigrants rights groups are monitoring reports of increased immigration enforcement activity in Milwaukee and Waukesha over the weekend.
Voces de la Frontera started getting reports on their 24-hour Rapid Response Line from multiple locations across Milwaukee on Friday, June 26. They confirmed at least four people were detained: one person at 23rd Street and Greenfield Avenue, two people at North 7th Street and W. McKinley Place and one person at 35th Street and Clybourn Street.
Callers then reported ICE activity near Jefferson Street and Moreland Road in Waukesha on Sunday. A social media described agents surrounding a vehicle, breaking its windows and forcing the driver out of the car.
“We are in contact with families who have reached out to us and are supporting them based on their needs,” Voces de la Frontera said in a post on Facebook.
Another group, Forward Latino issued a week-long advisory for “elevated activity by ICE in Southeast Wisconsin” on Saturday.
Recent ICE activity in Southeast Wisconsin follows the release of the Islamic Society of Milwaukee president from custody in Indiana earlier this month.
