Latvia plans to establish a joint venture with Ukraine to manufacture drones, according to Latvian Prime Minister Andris Kulbergs.
Kulbergs said the planned production facility would be located in Latvia’s border region, initially highlighting its role in creating jobs and boosting economic development in the area, News.Az reports, citing Latvian media.
He added that the location would also have strategic importance, enabling Latvia to quickly deploy interceptor drones in response to potential security threats near its borders with Russia and Belarus.
According to the prime minister, such a capability could reduce the need to use more expensive aircraft for certain defensive operations.
