They just canceled the pride parade… I feel like we just let hate win… fuck the organizers. People are bleeding all over the world for gay rights, and on the first sign of hate in modern Norway we cower behind the police in fear.

So sad to see this type of violence in my city. While the exact motives of the shooter are still not determined I have noticed more pride flags out in my neighborhood this morning. May we never lose solidarity here.

It sucks for the LGBT+ community, and it’s terrible, but I don’t feel the anger towards the organizers are justified. Not worth risking so many lives to prove some lunatics wrong.
Pride in Norway should be a celebration for the non-straight and how far we’ve come, and should not be a battlefield of conviction and resolve where where non-straight people have to risk their lives. I am sure if the organizers didn’t cancel the events, many people within the gay community would feel compelled by their friends and social circles to attend in the name of “not backing down” even when they themselves wouldn’t feel comfortable with it and only do it due to the social pressure and fear of being seen as “not fighting for the cause” etc.
There will always be lunatics, but these people do not represent our society as a whole, and giving them the battlefield they so desire isn’t worth it.
They need to improve their security measures and prioritize safety before arranging more events.
