MARSTON, Mo. (KFVS) – Magnitude 7 Metals could restart smelter in Marston, Missouri.
According to a press release from the American Primary Aluminum Association(APAA), the plant will reopen before the end of 2026.
Heartland News spoke to Sarah Ezell with Bootheel Progress with Partners, which is the economic development organization for Scott, New Madrid and Mississippi Counties.
She says, the organization hopes what’s being reported by the APAA is true, and Magnitude 7 is re-opening. Ezell also says she is reaching out to confirm what the non-profit trade association is reporting, and gather more information on her own.
500 employees lost their jobs when the Magnitude 7 Metals shutdown on the smelter in 2024.
According to The American Primary Aluminum Association, President Trump’s 50 percent tariffs on aluminum created the conditions for the smelter to reopen.
