A Raglan local told the Herald a man “shot his mate” in the arm with a shotgun near Whale Bay.
“Heaps of cop cars flew out here early this morning”, while a police helicopter also circled the area, the local said.
“It was two local fellas that we all know. They were together and then obviously doing what people do when they go crazy.”
Police said inquiries are ongoing and told the public to expect an increased police presence in the area.
Hato Hone St John said crew assessed and treated one patient in a minor condition at the scene.
