This is already outdated by 6 years. The numbers of Spanish speakers in the US is likely higher in the South West and the big cities across the entire US.
More than 50M people speak spanish in the USA, I’ve read recently
3.5 millones en Puerto Rico. Es el idioma oficial en territorio de Estados Unidos.
Edit: 3.5M in Puerto Rico where Spanish is the official language being US territory.
I grew up in San Antonio, Texas and you can live and work only speaking Spanish perfectly fine. I have friends whose parents have lived there 25+ years and can barely say a single sentence in English.
The future of Spanish is still English the USA is an assimilating machine after 3-4 generations Spanish ceases to exist
