“We know there was a fight and a young man has been seriously injured as a result,” he said.
“We also know that there were people there who know those involved, and we would like to speak to them.”
Cooper said the incident was isolated between two people, and there was no risk to the wider public.
“This incident could have had a tragic outcome, and we need the community’s support to assist us in identifying those involved,” he said.
An anonymous portal was set up for footage of the incident or the general area.
Anyone with footage, including from cell phones of the incident, can upload it anonymously via this link.
Those with information are asked to make a report at 105.police.govt.nz, clicking “Update Report”, or by calling 105, quoting reference number 260704/5190.
Information can also be shared anonymously through Crime Stoppers, by calling 0800 555 111.
