Imagine the effort that clown put in using taxpayers resources to get that information,but yesterday we have posts with scumbags stealing a bike in broad daylight in the capital and strolling away.

Between this and that story from someone on here the other day about a gard texting a woman on WhatsApp after she gave in her details over some incident, it seems like there are some seriously thick Gards who have no concept of respecting civilians privacy

As an aside, it is worth being aware the Gardaí do use info scraping to contact you for ongoing investigations. I had a Garda in Kevin St do it to me recently and he emailed me asking could I ring him. It really freaked me out but I went to my local Garda station and apparently it is a pretty common way they contact people these days.
The old Irish character flaw of “I’ll Show Him” – even if means risking my career and Government pay check.
I hope adverts.ie get kicked in the balls over this, if it turns out someone just rolled over and provided the information without due diligence.
Good to see the guard was so thick and ignorant in believing this foreigner would be scared and not report it.
Pure thug and I’m sure anyone convicted using his testimony with a good lawyer will be excited

I would have thought that he could do a subject access request to [adverts.ie](https://adverts.ie) for the actual paperwork they received requesting his information which would probably include the garda in questions name
That’s totally legal if the garda has a suspicion on someone(as far as I understand the gdpr law)
So the garda can just full out a form and get all this man’s info under the false pretense that the man is a criminal being investigated.. casual abuse of power, simple as that..
The man inturn has to go to the freakin HIGH court to force the commissioner to release the guards name just so an investigation can happen!!
