God I wish the UK had more people with a viewpoint like that, the country feels so individualist these days.
I hope Politicians in Germany will decide the same. Mandatory vaccination for everyone.
Hope you never have an unelected Kanzler in a Pandemic.
Look at Italy and Austria how that works out! (From the Peoples Viewpoint, not the Nations)
Who would have thought that the words “We live in a society” would become so meaningful? 🙂
This doesn’t sound ominous at all
Why I can’t speak for or about Austrias chancellor, the statement itself I agree with. Not just when it comes to vaccines but to many other things. There is a very strong focus on rights, which is grand, but without obligations doesn’t that devalue them?
I have a right to be respected, with the concordant obligation that I be mindful and respectful of others, etc. And I don’t think it can be automatically assumed that people connect a right with such a concordant obligation…
Sounds like my civics class, I think they even titled the class “Rights and Responsibilities”.
One comes with the other, and the abdication of one leads to loss of the other.
Shocker. But many people forget that they have obligations too.
In my opinion the Austrian government really f* it up this time. The situation we are in right now was not at all necessary. In summer the numbers were low and we could have comfortably vaxxed a large part of the population and prepared for winter – a lot of people were saying that winter could get bad even then.
Well, our then chancellor Kurz instead told the public that the pandemic was over. Imho this is one of the reasons so few people are vaxxed in Austria.
As for the situation now, I don’t see any major differences to the last year. They have learned nothing and improved nothing. The regulation for schools is a complete chaos – yet again.
The only thing that’s paramount is that ski lifts remain open – because they are owned by the ruling party’s cronies.
I know many people who have done everything they told us to do for the last years, only to be in lockdown yet again with no real perspective how this can come to an end.
They shouldn’t tell us about our obligations, they should start fulfilling theirs for a change.
The Austrian government has truly lost the plot with these measures. They’ve completely and utterly given into panic over reason. A 4000 Euro fine and an indefinite lock down for those who don’t give in represents a critical blow to the freedom of the individual.
You can only carry on and live a normal life providing you take this vaccine that you do not want. Coerced and bullied into it by your own government, this is the Austria these people want?
Honestly, the principles of liberty and freedom do not appear to have taken root in most of Europe. Only native English-speakers truly seem to get it.

Why did you add the word “only” in there?
