Considérer un test de langue française ou allemande au même niveau que le test de langue luxembourgeoise comme critère d’obtention de la nationalité luxembourgeoise

  1. Whilst I do not seek the Luxembourgish nationality, perhaps a test in all 3 languages would be more appropriate since they are all official. For the record, I just barely speak French… Just my opinion.

  2. It’s not just about being able to speak a language on a daily basis. It’s about the national identity. Someone who wants to get the nationality should be able to integrate and embrace the Luxembourgish history and culture.

The bar to get the nationality is already extremely low. The language test is a joke and anyone who’s willing to invest a few months can pass it. If that’s already too much asked for, then why should they get the nationality? Next people complain that they actually have to live in Luxembourg to get it….

You can argue that the languages should be treated equally. But in that case there should be a test for all 3. Asking for only French or German means that people want the passport without having to put any effort into it

Also, I think it’s very selfish. When the petition says that you can get by with only French or German, it’s because native Luxembourgish speakers adapt to you. They change the language so you don’t have to, even though most would prefer to speak Luxembourgish. If they replied “op Lëtzebuergesch w.e.g.” instead of switching languages every time they hear a “en français s.v.p.”, things wouldn’t work out so nicely anymore.

  3. If Luxembourg would not allow double citizenship, most would not even consider applying. That goes a long way as to how much people really want to become Luxembourgish.
