Two buildings were evacuated and a roadway was temporarily shut down Tuesday in South Elgin due to a natural gas leak, authorities said.
No injuries or illnesses have been reported, according to a news release.
The South Elgin & Countryside Fire Protection District responded around 12:21 p.m. Tuesday to the 600 block of Martin Drive.
Upon arrival, first responders identified an active natural gas leak between two industrial buildings, according to a fire district release.
Authorities said a team specializing in hazardous material emergencies also responded.
Two buildings were safely evacuated and additional nearby businesses were evaluated for elevated gas readings, according to the release.
Throughout the incident, Martin Road was closed between Sundown Road and Division Street.
Nicor Gas and ComEd crews were requested to the scene by authorities. The gas leak was secured by Nicor around 1:49 p.m.
Fire crews searched all the affected buildings for residual gas before allowing residents to reenter, according to the release.
The South Elgin Police Department and the Elgin Fire Department assisted at the scene.
