The elites are wrong. Britain is not a nation in decline – Conservatives Global

  1. It’s a very meandering article that doesn’t really make a point. And I’m sick of reading about the vaccine rollout only being possible due to leaving the EU, which has been shown many times to be untrue.

And it talks about the UK standing along against great threats in the past, referring to the war, then going on to mention the countries that fought with us. So not exactly alone then?

  2. *As the report says: “How different would our view of the world and of our role in it be if we thought of ourselves as a new and rising force, rather than a nation in decline?*

*“Whether post-Brexit Britain will in fact turn out to be a rising or a declining force is not determined by history or geography: it is essentially in our own hands.”*

I mean we joke but this is straight from the horse’s mouth. We can get Brexit to work but only *if we all believe in it*. It seems to be a common and very fundamental problem in the right wing these days. A lot of their worldview is driven by beliefs and idealism, things are at least as much (if not more!) about what you personally believe and the message you give to the public as what you are actually going to do and enact on a policy level.

I think its this slip in understanding that allows them to get away with feeling like they can just make these endless press statements and produce all these studies and reports about what we *could* do without then ever actually seeming to want to do *anything* that isn’t just you know lifting caps on bankers bonuses and massively boosting pensions while telling working folks to go suck a fuck…

  3. I’m an immigrant.
I’ve lived here for 10+ years, and every year it gets worse.

I don’t know what to call that other than decline.
