Lib Dems win Tiverton and Honiton byelection, overturning huge Tory majority | Byelections

  1. The Conservatives had 60% of the vote at the last election. The Lib Dems have won it with a 6000 margin just now. Big swing.

    This result might make some Tory ministers sit up and take notice. 24,000 majority gone.

  2. Did my bit today – nice to have my vote matter for once! A very clear sign for a general election IMO as there is no way in a million years that the Tories should lose this seat as this seat is as blue as they come.

    I predict an October general election will be called within weeks.

  3. Labour lost their deposit here (they were second in 2019!), and the Lib Dems lost their deposit in Wakefield.

    This is tactical voting on a scale not seen before. Clearly do-able for by elections on the other side of the country. Sadly, this will be much harder to repeat in a GE.

  4. The Tory candidate has locked herself in a room and is refusing to speak to the press.

    Remind me, which is the party of personal responsibility?
