  1. Malta is in the wrong here. Literally the only country still with these antiquated views.

This is going to further damage Maltas’s reputation internationally and keep affecting tourism. Now, no pregnant woman would dream of coming here on holiday and many won’t come on principle.

This corrupt island of cave dwellers needs a reality check. It’s fast becoming a shit hole, and there is endless bad news and scandals.

The more attention this story gets, the better.

  2. A pregnant American women from a Democrat city, at a time when pro-abortion activists are committing several acts of violence, not least threatening/attempting to assassinate a supreme court justice as their country holds their breath on Roe v. Wade, finds herself in an emergency in the only pro-life country in Europe while on vacation.

    Sus.

  3. The general feeling one the pro life groups is very pro-birth, in the sense that people seem adamant on her giving birth even to a dead baby, and not pro-life – safeguarding the only viable life.

Imo she should be given a safe abortion, and not left to die. Being a Santa Gianna Beretta Molla w a dead baby is beneficial to none.

  4. JeanParisot and the Times of Malta comments on this issue so fucking typical of those living in the dark ages, beholden by religion.

Seeing comments on ToM saying “she should have done her research about abortions in Malta before coming here”, “maybe the internal bleeding will stop by itself and everything will be fine”, “insurance allowing the coverage of abortions are breaking the laws, and must be prosecuted”.

    Fucking backwards idiots.

Also, notice how its only men driving the whole anti-abortion stance?

  5. Awful that poor woman and her own health not being protected by people that supposedly have an oath to help and care for others ..

  6. The fact that in this country a woman can’t get an abortion if she’s at huge risk of dying or raped is despicable. I hate how religious Malta is.

  8. The choice of not allowing aborts is just arbitrary, like any other choice. There is nothing inherently good or bad about it.

In situation like this, however, the choice they have made in Malta shows what kind of problems can arise.

  9. law or not this country cant get out of the “wait and see mentality”. Something has to go wrong before action is taken. No one wants the responsibility or the accountability.

  10. I think this is a matter of legal interpretation and the Maltese hospital taking an overly cautious approach. I do not find it hard to argue that the woman’s life was in danger the moment her pregnancy has such complications. The ToM article alludes to their interpretation being that her life is in danger the moment she gets an infection which I would say is overly restrictive and also completely against the spirit of a doctor’s role.

  11. Honestly.. was reading about this on my way to work in the morning and was utterly disgusted at the way this lovely couple is being treated, they can’t even leave the country ffs to get the medical assistance they require. When has actual life become less of a priority than the potentiality of life?? I mean, they’ve been informed that it’s a 100% certainty that the fetus she is carrying will not make it, so why continue to put the mother’s life at risk?? How can the medical practitioners involved put their head on their pillow and sleep soundly at night?? Save what you can, which is the mother’s life here, not preserve what unfortunately for the couple, has already been lost. It’s so sad that in this day and age, these atrocities are still going on. My heart goes out to them, the article literally made me cry reading it. I honestly don’t know what I would do if I ever have to be in their position, current situation just pushes me further to never even try to have kids. Hope that the law makers in this country do something about this and to ensure that people have alternative options that handle cases such as this one other than … wait and see… but that’s just wishful thinking eh. Bet they’d reason differently if it was their daughter or son in this position.

  12. Oh my God, it’s unbelievable. What a shame, even if you risk your life you cannot have abortion. It’s medioeval, no one can decide on a woman’s body. If she want to make abortion, she has the right to do it safely!!

  13. They fixed the problem. But you have to respect the laws of the place you are at. And there are thousands of babies who will be sacrificed, lives terminated if the laws were different.

The reason why abortion is illegal is because enough people are generally against it. Malta is not some conservative place .. quite the opposite. Sodomo and Gamorra might be a better description.

  14. I have an opinion, abortions should be safe, legal, and available to any woman who wants one. And the only people who should be involved in making a decision like this is the woman and her doctor. No-fucking-body else, end of story.
