  1. TBH I’m just really pissed cos my wife was due to go for two days in Cork and leave me in peace. Now she’s staying and is furious at both chemical brothers and the fact she can’t get a hotel refund cos of the short notice. So instead of peace I’m getting a fucking tasmanian devil at home, thanks MCD and Chemical arseholes.

  2. They could’ve done both. Some band in the 2000s did a set once at Oxegen, then choppered over to T In The Park to play there couple of hours later. They brought Zane Lowe a pint of Guinness, anyone remember the band? Singer with dark curly hair.

  3. Am I the only one that thinks this isn’t very bad form? My guess is that one of them got covid but is mostly asymptomatic. The rules in Ireland are you have to isolate so they couldn’t play in Cork. In England you don’t have to isolate so they can play Glastonbury. Seems like a fairly possible scenario?

  4. Seen them a bunch of times at festivals. For all they do really, they could just press play on a greatest hits CD and fuck off backstage. The Prodigy on the otherhand, those fuckers earn their money. I saw them come on directly after Chemical Brothers at V-Fest years ago and it was embarrassing how much Prodigy made the crowd fucking explode. After practically falling asleep standing to the Chemical Brothers.

  5. The Glastonbury set was pitched on Tuesday, with the illness bring reported on Wednesday. I’d say there’s a good chance they won’t be playing at Glastonbury either, but if they do, security will have to be very tight when they do go back to Cork, as a lot of people will throw things at them.

  6. From what I’ve been told,

Glastonbury set is a DJ set being played by one of the guys.

I’ll correct if I here any different.

  7. Was supposed to be at this gig. Really bad form from a group of musicians I love and have seen live before. Some people have bought tickets for this nearly three years ago and have been cancelled on multiple times…

  8. That’s just so rude and disrespectful to the fans. People may have been travelling from other cities or countries to go to Cork and watch them perform.

  9. I mean they are playing tunes on a glorified laptop, could have dressed two Cork lads up in black t shirts, increase the dry ice production and no one would be the wiser.

  10. I think they should clarify it more. The statement said crew so if it is their crew then I’d understand a bit more and would explain why they can still manage Glastonbury as they’d not really need the road crew there

  11. Tested positive yesterday and have been waiting for this gig for three years, very happy to have it postponed in my circumstance. Sorry to hear about everyone who got put out by it, whether it’s due to Covid or Glastonbury.

  12. Lads. The gig in Glastonbury is a DJ set so no crew of consequence is required.
While the timing is awful, it’s very possible that all this is above board.

  13. I got the email also about cancellation but it says the concert is postponed to 2023. Isn’t there a chance to get refund of the ticket? It’s not mentioned in the email or, waiting till 2023 is the only option?

  14. A mate of mine owned a pub in Kentish Town back in the 90s and the Chemical Brothers used to play there on Sundays. He normally took Sundays off but came in on one of them and didnt like their music and told them to “turn that shite off”. We still slag him to this day that he kicked the Chemical Brothers out of his pub.

  15. I can see why there’s so much outrage but a lot of it is being directed to the wrong places. The show in cork was a headline show with a live set. This requires a huge set up, a band, a tech crew and a lot of tech equipment set up. If half the crew have come down with covid then it simply isn’t possible to put that show on.

A DJ set at Glastonbury will be as simple as the two of them, hell maybe even 1 of them showing up with a USB stick.

Having said that the outrage should be directed at whoever made the decision to cancel rather than just doing a DJ set in Cork. I’m sure 80% of the people going wouldn’t even know the difference, 10% will probably think the chemical brothers are playing when it’s actually Kettama on stage, but 100% of people would rather be there dancing to something rather than standing around Cork with an expensive AirBNB to pay for.

  16. Ehhhh no, do you know what time these were published at? They’ve also released a statement explaining it, keep clutching at straws though.

  17. I’m gutted as well. Saw them at Sonar on Saturday and it’s an incredible new set. Tonight was gonna be my 40th chems gig.
They absolutely did not cancel it just to play glasto. Their crew, 2 tour buses and 2 40ft trucks of gear are here in cork. It needed to be cancelled on such short notice because of crew having covid and one of the band.

I highly doubt glasto will go ahead, although with additional precautions they may be able to play while positive, as long as they are well enough. Obviously getting on to a plane when you have a positive test isn’t ethical even if you feel fine, so that would be the only reason I see the glasto or York shows going ahead.

I’m as frustrated as everyone, I’ll be out a few hundred quid for the York show, but I’m here in cork now and a load of fans are going out for drinks and a club night later.

  18. I decided to come down to Cork anyways, and glad I did. Couldn’t get a refund for accommodation, so I’m supping Murphy’s in the Black Dog instead…

  19. If some of their crew have caught Covid which makes travelling to Ireland to do a live show logistically impossible, but Ed and Tom don’t have Covid, there’s no reason they shouldn’t do Glasto. Both shows would have been booked a long time ago. They are not doing Glasto just because Cork is cancelled. Cork would also be a highly lucrative gig for them compared to Glasto DJ set.
