MEQUON — The Homestead High School Latin students finally got to take the dream trip they have been waiting two years for. From June 15 to June 22, 30 students, chaperones and families got to visit Italy, exploring the ancient roots of the classical world.
The group reported that it was hot when they visited, but “historic” and “absolutely unforgettable.” Highlights included climbing to the top of Mt. Vesuvius, exploring Pompeii and Herculaneum, walking the halls of Poppaea’s villa in Oplontis, visiting Julius Caesar’s burial place in the Roman Forum, visiting the Pantheon and standing inside the Colosseum.
The group also got to see Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel and his sculpture “David” in Florence. They also made wishes at the Trevi Fountain.
