Turkish Opposition Leader: “The Greek government know that we are Patriots. They know very well what tradition we come from (CHP is Kemal’s party) and in what way we protect the interests of the country. We will show them what will become of the weapons on the islands when we are in power.”

The leader of the opposition of Turkey, Kemal Kilicdaroglu, is also following the same narrative of Recep Tayyip Erdogan, threatening our country with the same provocative request for demilitarization of the Aegean islands.
Referring to the “militarization” of the Greek islands, Kilicdaroglu said: “The government in Turkey will change, we will be in power. The Greek government know that we are Patriots. They know very well what tradition we come from and how we protect the interests of the country. At the same time, they know the late Ecevit and the late Erbakan. They know very well. Let them talk now, we will show them what will become of the weapons on these islands when we come to power.”

(translator notice: the opposition is CHP, the party of Mustafa Kemal, that’s the “tradition” in which they belong)

Kilicdaroglu’s stance thus confirmes in the most categorical way that the Greek-Turkish relations and their stance about them are a part of Erdogan’s and Kilicdaroglu’s campaigns during the long pre-election period in Turkey.

It’s also important that according to the Turkish press, the Erdogan is preparing to raise the issue of “demilitarization” of the Greek islands at the NATO Summit on June 29 and 30 in Madrid.
For f*cks sake.
A day. Can’t we have a single day in peace?
I posted the Vice President’s statements earlier today. Yesterday it was the Foreign Minister. Every time I look at the news there are new threats.
Now it’s the leader of the opposition. The choices are the opposition and Erdogan?
The opposition leader promised in the last elections to [invade Greece](https://www.express.co.uk/news/world/921193/World-War-3-Turkey-threaten-invade-Greece-Aegean-Sea) and take back the “occupied” islands if he wins. He said he supports Erdogan if he “[does something](https://www.ekathimerini.com/news/1185865/turkish-opposition-backs-erdogan-over-greek-island-claims/)” about the islands a couple of months ago.
Even if Erdogan loses what’s going to change then?
What the hell are they gonna do, just continue to escalate things?
Or are they just trying to gain votes?
How many people jack of to these threats and vote for them?

There’s even Turkish newspapers now that say Erdogan will officially challenge the sovereignty of the islands on the NATO summit in Madrid in a few days.
So now what? We’ll wait a few days till 30th of June to see if there’s actually gonna an actual escalation…
Fuck them, the government, the opposition, and all their jingoistic voters.
And then they wonder why nobody wants them in the EU.
All that will happen is that the national guard units will still be there, they won’t do anything as it would destroy their economy and western alliances
This person (and Aksener whose party has a similar rhetoric) is the one many in Europe think is “pro-West” and represents a “democratic Turkey”.
It’s about time that everyone in Europe gets their head out of the sand and recognize that >80% of Turkish polticians are nationalists, and don’t give two shits about Westernizing. Some of them are simply better at hiding it.
Turkey is much more like Russia than like Europe, but because they’re in NATO everyone pretends not to see it.
Europe should know by now it cannot trust Turkey. We should arm ourselves in the next few years for a possible conflict with Turkey or Russia. They are both from the same breed.
god i’m so sick and tired of these colossal man-babies in turkey
“By allowing our military equipment to become receptacles of their explosives!”
