SCOTTSBORO, Ala. (WAFF) – If someone knocks on your door in Scottsboro over the next few weeks, police want residents to know there’s no reason to be alarmed.
The Scottsboro Police Department says Paula Jansone, a college student from Latvia, is going door to door selling educational materials as part of an international internship program.
Officers shared the information on social media so neighbors will know why she’s in the area and to avoid any unnecessary concern.
“We just wanted to make it as simple as we could for her and push out some information to ease the minds of the citizens if they saw her walking around,” an officer said, adding it can also help reduce “pushback” for both residents and the student.
Jansone says she’s grateful for the welcome she’s received in Scottsboro.
“I feel really, really welcome here. I really love it,” she said. “Everybody seems really friendly, and I really feel the Southern hospitality.”
She added that she feels “blessed” to be here, saying people in the South “love to smile,” something she says isn’t as common where she’s from in Europe.
Jansone says the money she earns will go toward helping pay off her student loans.
