The elusive Pine Martin….never seen one before, apologies for pic quality

  1. Pine Martin absolutely slaughtered our chickens a few years ago. The pen was built like Fort Knox and still….Quite impressive that something so small can be such an effective predator.

  2. Who would have thought that they would be the Red Squirrel population booster.

Seems that where ever they are the Grey is the primary target, as opposed to Red, and the Red population is increasing rapidly

  3. had one of them move in near me during covid they have the most peculiar sounding call and theyre fast they zip around making it

little bastards though like to munch on the wiring in cars

  4. I wish I didn’t see as many. Feckers have the mother’s food waste bin ruined. All attempts to keep them out have been foiled.

We placed a cinder block on top, the lad somehow managed to knock it off. We placed the food waste bin inside the big bin, he still got in.

    They’re crafty sons of bitches.

  5. One absolutely destroyed out attic last summer. Tore everything to pieces, shit the size of dogs everywhere. Tore all the insulation out of the eves. Couldn’t move him due to the protection status. We had trees close to the roof, he managed to climb and get close enough to jump and gain access. About 3k worth of damage

  6. We have a breeding pair for the past few years, since we no longer have dogs. We called the first one Marty not realising there was another, so the second one got dubbed Farty. They do stink, and they pee on everything. We also have a fox and hares passing through. I saw the hare stand up, like to attention, last week and went to the window to see what was up. The pine martin appeared… I thought oh no… but the martin just did his usual rounds with the hare standing stock still, watching every move. I’m not sure if their eyesight is great, even I can sit inches from one (only glass between us) and they don’t appear to see me.

We had a family of a stray cat with kittens move in last year. When the kittens started to disappear we brought the rest to a shelter for safety… you can’t get rid of pine martins.

I enjoy watching them run but I really don’t like them. Protected pests are the worst pests.
