CHEYENNE – The June 2026 issue of the Wyoming Insight is available at the state of Wyoming’s Economic Analysis Division website, ai.wyo.gov/divisions/economic-analysis. The Wyoming Insight serves as an energy index and business indicators report for the state.
Highlights from the newest issue include:
Oil prices drop for the first time in five months. Natural gas prices increase.
The West Texas Intermediate (WTI) monthly average price for crude oil was $84.81 per bbl. in June, 17% less than a month ago, but 24.4% more than June 2025. Average active oil rigs were 13 in June, and the conventional gas rig count was 2. In June of last year, there were nine oil rigs and four gas rigs.
The June 2026 natural gas price at the Henry Hub averaged $3.14 per million British thermal units (MMBtu), $0.20 more than last month and $0.12 more than June 2025. The Opal Hub natural gas price averaged $1.75/MMBtu in June, $0.47 more than last month, but $0.87 less than June 2025.
Total sales and use tax collections increase substantially year-over-year.
Total sales and use tax collections in June summed to $80.5 million, $9.2 million more (+12.9%) than June last year.
“Sales & use tax collections improved year-over-year in June for the fifth month in a row,” said Dylan Bainer, principal economist for Wyoming’s Economic Analysis Division, in a news release.
Collections from the utilities sector improved the most, up $3.3 million (+127.3%). This was followed by retail trade, which is Wyoming’s largest sector in terms of sales and use tax collections, up $2.7 million (+8.8%). The mining sector also experienced an increase in collections, up $1.5 million (+21.6%).
