Scientific Publications in Europe

  1. Scientific publication system is broken in so many ways. Its one of the things pushing people out of universities here (next to terrible job security)

  2. I just can’t figure out a pattern here. What is it correlated with? For example is it correlated with free education? Or more people going to college? Or what is it?

  3. I see Iran is punching above its weight.

Edit: apparently the expression is “punching above one’s weight” not “pushing”.

  4. The figure for Iran is not correct.

Scientific publication for Iran [71,894 in 2020 according to Scopus](https://www.scimagojr.com/countryrank.php?year=2020&order=it&ord=desc),

but its [population is 83,220,000 in 2020](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demographics_of_Iran#Vital_statistics), hence per million population figure is 863.

The wikipedia seems to be edited by Iranian user.

Economically and scientifically Iran will not be more advanced than Poland, Romania and Turkey. One dollar equals 42,000 IRR in official exchange rate [but in black market, it is 112,000 IRR to one dollar](https://www.arabnews.com/node/1348411/business-economy).
