The European Space Agency aims to launch its own astronauts into space in a new proposal

  1. Nothing will be decided before November 2022, hopefully by then the proposals will be a little more detailed.

The ESA had proposed the DC4EU program before, which consists of buying and operating the American crewed spaceplane Dream Chaser. In my opinion, this should definitely be pursued and enacted, as it would ensure a crewed LEO capability for Europe after the ISS will end, since there is quite a bit of uncertainty on what shape international space collaboration will have after the ISS.

Beyond that, we will see whether the ESA members will be willing to put their money where their mouth is. I doubt that this mission will translate in giving ESA the mandate to develop a full Moon or beyond manned program.

  2. 20 years ago here in Europe, China was known for cheap and fake goods. By 2021, China has its own space station and can send people into space.

What has happened in the EU during this time? Apart from corruption and rewarding incopetence.

  3. *The two missions aim to establish the ESA’s own system to launch astronauts into space and to probe Jupiter’s frozen moon Enceladus*

HUH. That is some serious typo error there lol; Enceladus is a Saturnian moon.

Seriously man, why do sites like ZME not have or use an actual proof reader lol.

  4. Since ESA has mastered automatic orbital rendez-vous with its ATV, it’s technically possible to make several Ariane 6 launches and assemble a manned lunar convoy at LEO.

  5. ESA has been aiming to launch its own astronauts into space for over four decades.

The stupid thing is, it has been so…damn…close. Ariane 5 is human-rated and the ATV was a manned spacecraft: it just lacked a reentry system. ESA already proposed, back in the 1990s, [the CTV: a manned spacecraft combining the ATV’s service module and a reentry capsule](http://www.astronautix.com/c/ctv.html). In fact, NASA’s next manned spacecraft, [Orion](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orion_(spacecraft)), is essentially a US-branded CTV, as it combines the [European Service Module](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_Service_Module), an evolution of the ATV’s service module, with…a reentry capsule.
