Isn’t there no rules or timetable for fireworks in Malta? Morning, Afternoon, Evening, Night anytime I here it.

  1. Fireworks propel a cocktail of chemicals into the atmosphere, many of which can harm both people and the environment. The vivid colours in firework displays come from metallic compounds such as barium or aluminium that can have negative impacts on animal and human health.

The shock of fireworks can cause wildlife to flee, ending up in unexpected areas or roadways, flying into buildings and other obstacles, and even abandoning nests, leaving young vulnerable to predators.

  2. When I lived in Malta the most annoying wasn’t the fireworks that light up the sky it was some sort of firework that just made noise… Like a bomb going off in the middle of the day… WTF?

At least it’s not as bad where I live in Canada… Usually kids set off fireworks a couple of days leading up to a public holiday, on the holiday and a couple of days after, but the rest of the year it’s pretty quiet. And they never set off fireworks during the day.

  3. Stop complaining, it’s impossible to not love fireworks! It’s the most avanced form of entertainment humans have discovered, it has both noise AND bright colours, nothing can beat that!

  4. None of the below comments seem to be answering your questions. The answer is yes, there is a timetable and it would depend on the Feast program being celebrated. The feast comes once a year for each town, usually around summer. Unfortunately as Malta is small, often you will hear more than one town depending where you are. Some towns have overlapping dates. Yes unfortunately they do noise through the day but it rarely lasts a week, sometimes it’s just over the feast weekend. Love it or hate it (like Marmite and Vegimite) this is part of the Maltese culture.

  5. I think they can only start at 9am and can not go over 12am. And yes they are scheduled. The morning ones can be a bit annoying at time, especially if you have dogs, but its part of our culture and I kinda like it. Brings a warm feeling of village hood if that makes sense

Edit: ironically personal fireworks are illegal 😂

  6. Not going anywhere close sending people away, that’s just rude and goes against integration and globalization are, but love it or hate it, that’s part of what makes us Maltese. We are already destroying the scenery with absurd micro flats for greed.

If we had to remove all traditions, churches (because of bells) and anything that in someway annoys us we might as well just give up being Maltese/Mediterraneans, and become robots, sleep/work/eat/repeat till death!

  7. You could see it as an indicator of the start of summer, feasts parties and beach time. If you don’t like them and refuse to open your mind to them, summer is going to be very long every year.

  8. As a visitor to the island, I found it amusing that in the lead up to the fireworks shows, there are guys literally sprawled across the walkways with boxes of fireworks setting up the displays, laying all the fuses. None of it is cordoned off, and the they just leave the displays set up to come back and set off later that evening, and no one bats an eyelid or to my knowledge, sets them off unofficially. Perhaps some Maltese have experiences that say otherwise?

  9. It’s normal to hear fireworks from May to early October or so. I personally love fireworks and the only ones that are too loud are the ones close to us. But they never last more than 11pm.

  10. The 8AM ones feels a bit out of touch with reality as a big part of the modern job sectors have shift workers, I would probably not love em if I worked night. Otherwise I like them way more than I like church bells, 24/7 honking and constant construction noise

  11. Just woken up *again* by fireworks on Gozo, it’s 3am on a school night. I know they shouldn’t be doing it now but you think anyone will be able to stop them?

To answer your question, during festa, day time petards tend to coincide with church times so, 8am, 12 noon (ish), 5 or 5.30pm, and 8pm – since so many villages are so close together you will likely here them throughout the summer festa season rather than only on set feast days / weeks for your own town.

Then various times during the evening based on there festivals / publish times for set fireworks displays.
