Uber will stop working in Brussels on friday

  1. A quick recap:

    – Brussels: Hello if you’re planning on running a taxi service then here are the rules you need to follow, which are the same as every other taxi service

    – Uber: Oh, but we are not a taxi service *wink* our drivers are not employees so we dont need to follow all those regulations

    – Brussels court of appeals: Yeah no you’re a taxi service and you gotta follow the rules for a taxi service

Uber’s model is based around exploiting their drivers and skirting around existing regulations for taxi services. Uber can massively undercut existing taxi services because they dont follow all the regulations and rules surrounding taxi services which drive up the price.

  2. How bad must you be as an industry that you need the government to ban competition to keep you in business, though …

  3. Taxis in Brussels were terrible. Didn’t show up. Rude drivers that ripped you off by taking detours. Filthy cars. Cannot go back to that

  4. I for one will miss it a lot… was very convenient for me in terms of money/time spent 😕 always used it to get to the airport

  5. Fair. I agree. Can we make the Taxi Vert app better in the meantime? I never managed to successfully get a car through that.

I know, calls. But one of the factors that made Uber so convenient was how easy it was to use their app and the entire service through it. Please someone help Taxi Vert.

  6. Can’t we have an uber-type app & service without the exploitation uber is known for? I always kept taking taxis when it was an option, but when you are in an area where there is no fixed taxi waiting spot (read: almost everywhere that’s not in the center or a tourist spot), the Uber app really beats trying to get a taxi by a long fucking mile.
