The issue she’s pointing to is that crime has origins. Societies where all are equal don’t have events where entire groups of people want to separate themselves from other groups.
Pointing out that the rich are just steamrolling over the poor might be correct, but requires more context. And also reduces things to money and ignores racism btw…
Meanwhile, Bouchez goes for the narrative that everyone starts the same and is where they are in life because of their effort. Which is a lie. Neoliberals gonna neoliberal.
What an incredibly stupid expression, Jesus fuck. “It’s because of the rich that I have to deal with the poor savages here in Molenbeek.”
That’s demeaning towards her own inhabitants, the inhabitants of the richer towns around Brussels, and honestly just fucked up.
That all aside the fact that regardless of why those people ended up in Molenbeek and not in Laken in the first place, doesn’t even matter. She’s boss of the local police in her town, she has to deal with it. Tough luck. If you don’t want to take on the issues your town is dealing with, next time consider not running for fucking mayor.
If you’re just going to point fingers to others and not do any effort to solve the issue, obviously nothing is going to change.
Jesus, fucking symptomatic of this entire country right now. “It wasn’t us, it was them!” and proceed to not do ass.
People in Brussels should vote for Vlaamse partijen! 🦁
Man i can’t stand Moureaux.
Her intent is correct. Correlating crime with lower socio-economic status which has a myriad of different contributing factors, some of which are attributable to “”the rich”” sure.
Expressed it in such a ludicrous and populist way that all intent goes out the window. Moureaux knows her voter base consists of people that vote for her so they can wipe their ass with her. In an ordinary community the mayor has a reason to tackle crime. It’s a fraction of the inhabitants that commit it and disturb 99% of the other inhabitants aka your voters. In Molenbeek those numbers might be skewed and perceived attempts at combatting crime are easily exploited by political opponents.

What a dumb way of expressing it.
