  1. NATO wants to increase the number of its rapid reaction forces to more than 300,000.

This was announced by Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg on Monday before the summit meeting of the 30 member states in Madrid. So far, the NATO rapid reaction force NRF comprises about 40,000 soldiers.

The planned restructuring of the NRF is part of a new force model for the entire alliance area. This envisages more forces in high readiness. In addition, forces are to be assigned to specific areas. This would allow German soldiers to be permanently assigned to support Lithuanian troops in the event of a Russian attack.

The troops would generally be under national command in peacetime, but could then be requested by the supreme commander of NATO forces in Europe (Saceur) in an emergency. Fixed readiness times would also be set for the troops. Under discussion, some units would have to be ready to deploy within a maximum of ten days, others within 30 or 50 days.

Details for an emergency are to be defined in new regional defense plans, which are to be ready next year.

  2. In Russia, those who disapprove of Putin’s fascism will be forced to believe him. NATO is a military alliance set up against the USSR. Putin’s propaganda has been persuaded that he is acting against Russia. Now people will think he is right and it is their duty to defend Russia, not Putin. But as Putin rules Russia so does he. This is a great scenario to end the existence of Russia altogether. Such an idea might not be a bad one, if it were not for the nuclear weapons and thousands of dangerous man-made facilities on its territory. Chaos here would cost the whole world dearly. But who cares when military budgets can be increased at the expense of social programmes and countering climate change?

  3. If Germanys presence in Lithuania is intended to be long term, maybe it would be an idea to merge the maneuver elements of the Lithuanian Army into the 1. Panzerdivision?

  4. Although its one more step towards world war, I find myself inclined to agree. If it comes down to us or them, well, I chose us. We certainly shouldn’t be caught with our pants down, and this kind of rapid deployment ability might be vitally important to that end.

  5. A 7,5 time increase in ready forces. Why is this necessary I worry? Hopefully, it will make things more stable.

  6. This is really demented to a never seen before level. Basically we’re approaching Putin’s level of warmongering. How about we remove this guy from NATO and we start from scratch?

Start the diplomatic effort with Russia immediately, something that Biden and NATO are actively sabotaging for their own good.

Remember, this is damaging US, no the senile guy over the Atlantic.

This is Europe, let’s start doing it on our own. Let’s keep arming Ukraine and financing it, but meanwhile put the diplomatic efforts on overdrive.

Carrot and stick approach with Putin.

The stick approach doesn’t work, usually never with a banana republic and no doubt it wouldn’t work with a military superpower.

Let’s ignore and put aside Boris and Joe for once and solve this mess that NATO is fueling.

  7. It’s going to take additional resources but it’s money well spent. Better to have what is needed to defend the Baltic countries than let them
Be over run and then have to liberate them
