Starmer is too afraid of frightening the horses to propose anything radical. He (or those whose advice he chooses to listen to) thinks he can blandly and inoffensively focus group his way into government. It’s an approach that relies entirely on the Tories losing the next election rather than Labour winning it.
Problem is, Britain has got serious issues that need a good hard look, but Starmer’s team bricks it at the merest prospect of putting absolutely anyone’s nose out of joint. He thinks he can avoid setting out his stall until as close to the next election as possible, but failing to set out his priorities and vision just lets the Tories and their compliant media define him first.
A Labour leader who is pathologically incapable of addressing the facts that Brexit is buggering the country raw, wealth inequality and housing is unsustainably broken, and neoliberalism doesn’t work, is a Labour leader who might get into government, but he won’t get to stay there very long when the voters turn round after five years and ask why the hell he hasn’t fixed anything.
His big ideas are currently stuck in focus groups. The only big announcement I remember is the one that made me quit the party. That if you put more money into the system you should get more out of it. The wealthy do not need welfare. If that’s not something the party or Starmer can get their heads around then their not going to make any tangible difference to our lives
No one fucking addresses speed bumps, who do I vote for now???
Announcing policies now means the Tories will steal them closer to the election.
No I don’t like the silence either but that’s the way it is.
starboy, being a westminster establishment insider, will avoid at all costs, any act or words that imply taking any kind of responsibility for anything.
