Heavy rain accompanied by strong winds is expected to affect South Korea over the next two days, the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) said on Tuesday.
The agency forecasts accumulated rainfall of between 5 and 80 millimeters across central regions and the southern provinces of Jeolla and Gyeongsang from Tuesday through Wednesday, News.Az reports, citing Yonhap.
The greater Seoul area could receive up to 120 mm of rain during the same period.
The KMA also warned that wind gusts could exceed 70 kph on Jeju Island and in coastal areas of South Chungcheong, Jeolla and Gyeongsang provinces. Winds of up to 55 kph are expected across the rest of the country.
The rainfall, driven by an influx of warm and humid air, began on Jeju Island around 8 a.m. Tuesday. The rain is forecast to spread to central regions and South Chungcheong Province during the morning before expanding across the remaining central and southern parts of the country later in the afternoon.
While temperatures are expected to temporarily decline during the heavy rainfall, they are forecast to rebound quickly afterward due to persistent high humidity. Daytime highs are expected to range between 28 C and 37 C.
As of 8 a.m., temperatures stood at 27.6 C in Seoul and nearby Incheon, 29.1 C in the central city of Daejeon, 28.6 C in the southern city of Busan, and 27.2 C in Gwangju.
The KMA added that apparent temperatures are expected to reach around 33 C across most of the country, while coastal areas of Gangwon Province and the southeastern province of North Gyeongsang could experience apparent temperatures of around 35 C.
