AMEA Power Commissions Battery Storage at Benban

Dubai-based renewable energy developer AMEA Power has commissioned the 600 MWh BESS and a 500 kV substation at its 1 GW solar PV and 600 MWh battery storage project in Benban, Egypt. The company has also started phased power dispatch to the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC) grid. Once fully commissioned, the project is expected to become Africa’s largest combined solar PV and battery energy storage project, supporting grid reliability and the integration of renewable energy, says AMEA.

JSW Energy Expands BESS Business with New Orders

India’s JSW Energy said its step-down subsidiary, JSW Energy PSP Eleven Limited (JEPEL), has secured orders worth INR 443.74 crore from Bondada Renewable Energy Private Limited. Under the contract, it will supply 200 MW/400 MWh of BESS and power conversion system (PCS) solutions. JEPEL manufactures battery systems at its 5 GWh per year assembly plant in Pune. The company said the order strengthens its presence in the energy storage segment.

JSW Energy currently has 29.6 GWh of locked-in energy storage capacity and is targeting 40 GWh by 2030 as part of its long-term growth plans. Its locked-in generation capacity of 32.1 GW comprises 14.53 GW operational and 13 GW under construction across thermal, hydro, and renewables, along with 4.6 GW in the pipeline.

OX2 Expands Hybrid Renewable Portfolio in Sweden

Swedish independent power producer (IPP) OX2 has approved the construction of a 50 MW/209 MWh BESS alongside its Fageråsen Wind Farm in Malung-Sälen, Sweden. The project expands the company’s hybrid renewable energy portfolio and follows its earlier SEK 3 billion investment in the wind farm. OX2 says this will be its first owned wind project in Sweden. Trinasolar is supplying the battery storage component. The project will be financed through an extension of existing commitments from DNB and UniCredit. Construction on site is set to begin this summer, with commissioning expected by the end of 2027.

Havells Partners Pixii to Enter India’s BESS Market

Havells India Limited, the Indian electrical equipment manufacturer, has entered the BESS segment through a strategic collaboration with Norway-based Pixii AS. The companies have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to develop and introduce modular BESS solutions for India’s residential and commercial & industrial (C&I) markets. Under a phased roadmap, the partners plan to begin with pilot installations, co-develop integrated energy storage solutions, and gradually move towards local manufacturing in India. The collaboration, said the duo, combines Havells’ manufacturing and distribution network with Pixii’s energy storage technology to support the country’s growing clean energy and storage market.

In April 2025, Havells announced an INR 6 billion strategic investment in Indian solar module producer Goldi Solar to acquire a stake of between 8.90% and 9.24% (see India Solar PV News Snippets).

ReNew, Mitsui Refinance 320 MW RTC Project

A consortium of 12 lenders has refinanced ReNew Energy Global and Mitsui’s 320 MW round-the-clock (RTC) hybrid renewable energy project in India with a green loan equivalent to $730 million. The financing will refinance the project’s existing senior debt and support additional project costs and capital expenditure. The project spans Rajasthan, Maharashtra, and Karnataka, combining solar, wind, and battery energy storage to provide firm, dispatchable renewable power. The lender group was led by Standard Chartered Bank, Société Générale (GIFT City), Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (Singapore), and Bank of America. Norton Rose Fulbright advised the lender consortium.
