Critics on Tuesday burst the Donald Trump White House’s bubble over its SpongeBob SquarePants Day post.
Nickelodeon marked #SpongeBobDay on X, prompting the White House to join in with an edited image of SpongeBob from the Season 3 episode “One Krabs Cash.”

In the White House post, the beloved sea sponge is shown wearing the episode’s famous soda-drink hat but with Donald Trump’s “MAGA” slogan emblazoned across the front.
The post quickly attracted criticism.

One user edited the image so the hat instead read “**** MAGA.”
Another argued SpongeBob is “a pretty tough character to turn into a MAGA mascot,” given that his “entire personality is kindness, empathy, inclusion, protecting the environment, and helping complete strangers.”

Someone hilariously mocked the White House for watermarking the image, despite it being based on a Nickelodeon cartoon.
But perhaps the mostbitingcriticism came from fans who pointed out that the entire joke of the episode is that the much-coveted hat ultimately turns out to be completely worthless.
