I had to be on a jury for a similarly pathetic amount of weed possession. The trial ran on for two days because some gardaí couldn’t make the first day. The lunch for the 12 jurors over the two days, cost more than the weed yer man was in possession of.

For €21.80 I can buy approx 5grams of legal weed and enjoy it in public (Canada) Such a nonsensical, old fashioned stigma.

A mate of mine was caught smoking a joint at a Slane gig back in the 90s. They searched him and found enough for a few joints, a few euro worth. He ended up with a record. Fast forward a few years he got a first class honours degree in a field he really wanted to work in, but he couldn’t get a job anywhere. It actually ruined his life in a lot of ways.
Now I used to smoke tonnes of the stuff but I really don’t think it’s for everyone. It can really mess people up. Made me an anxious lazy bastard anyway. But it really needs to be legalised. This kind of shit where you’re making someone into a criminal for something so insignificant is wrong.
Is that €20 for the hash & €1.80 for a Mars bar ?

I was given a 500 euro fine for 0.7g (As a 21 year old college student,.it was my only time ever being in court). I think of it every time I see a scumbag getting off with a suspended sentence and no fine for kicking someone’s teeth in unprovoked
The sooner it’s made legal the better. It’s legal here in Canada. I live in Vancouver, there are weed stores everywhere.
What’s the judges name? Can he be sent for a psychiatric evaluation? Because he certainly sounds like he needs help…

I’m not a smoker, however, I find it ridiculous that someone’s life is now ruined over €20 worth of weed. Name in the paper and all. Disgrace.
